Carrie Haslbeck: Serving McDaniel Students Full-time!

Carrie Haslbeck--croppedAnother young woman answers God’s call on her life. Its exciting to see this happening more and more here at LifePoint! Read Carrie’s story below:

“Hi, my name is Carrie Haslbeck, I have been attending LifePoint Church for the past four years while I’ve been a student at McDaniel College. As a freshman at McDaniel I came in knowing little about my faith. I had grown up going to church but never understood Jesus and the life He offers. And yet, God was pursuing me. He placed people in my life that wanted to have conversations with me about Jesus. They let me ask them questions and talked about their relationships with Jesus in a loving and relatable way. Because of these friendships I realized that I would be more than okay at McDaniel.

A few months into my freshman year I started following Jesus through Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. InterVarsity is the largest college ministry in the country and is committed to reaching college students with Gospel. It was here that I was challenged to change my actions and start living as Christ had called me to live. Thankfully there was a group of InterVarsity students from McDaniel regularly attending LifePoint and through the amazing worship and convicting sermons I was challenged to grow even more in my newly found faith.

After making my commitment to Christ four years ago I continued to get increasingly involved with InterVarsity at McDaniel. I led a small group Bible Study for the past three years and served on the Executive Leadership Team for the past two years. As a small group leader I had the opportunity to see God at work not only in my life but also in the lives of the people I was leading. It was amazing to see the transformational work he was doing in their lives and it was so humbling to know that he had chosen me to help him do that. I found myself constantly talking about how cool it was that God had chosen me to help lead these women closer to him. And what a blessing it truly was.

As I began my senior year I started thinking about what I was going to do after graduation. Our current InterVarsity staff at McDaniel, Josh Foster, had asked me to prayerfully consider coming on staff with InterVarsity and as graduation grew nearer I began strongly considering it. This past December I attended an InterVarsity missions conference called Urbana and it was there that, after a lot of prayer and discernment, I decided to apply for staff.

In March I committed to coming on staff full-time with InterVarsity at McDaniel College! God used InterVarsity at McDaniel to shape and grow my faith in deep and life-changing ways and I am excited to become an integral part of the mission to reach this campus with the Gospel. Over the past four years the InterVarsity chapter at McDaniel has grown immensely, both numerically and in spiritual depth. I have seen the need for the Gospel at McDaniel and I am grateful to have the opportunity to continue to grow God’s kingdom on the campus and spread the Gospel to students who have never heard it before.

I am excited to invite my church family at LifePoint to partner with me on this journey. Part of my job is building a strong partnership team of people who can be praying for me and providing financial support for the ministry. All of my support comes from people like you and I would love to ask you to prayerfully consider joining me in continuing the good work that God is doing at McDaniel. I’d love to share more with you about what God is doing on campus.

If you have any questions about InterVarsity or what I will be doing at McDaniel please do not hesitate to contact me.
